OVERVIEW
Psychotherapy
Fear comes from narrowness
The vagusonar idea, which refers to the so-called “classical” vocal approach, leads through its holistic execution to stable, inner breadth and thus effective self-expression.
We know that singing is good for you. But for a whole-body, far-reaching sense of well-being, the “how” is crucial.
Not everyone is aware of the serious difference behind this, as the classic vocal approach not only captures the sound waves above the diaphragm but also directs them subdiaphragmatically into the deeper levels of the body. This stimulates the entire length and width of the parasympathetic nervous system with its vagus nerve as a counterbalance to the often overstimulated sympathetic nervous system – breadth displaces narrowness, uncertainty gives way to stability; negative emotional anchors are washed up, despair is replaced by expression.
Through breathing, speaking and singing exercises based on the vagus idea, inner tensions and conflicts can be released and expressed.
The realization or development of the important ego component "voice" achieved in this way constitutes the possible therapeutic success - entelechy and catharsis in harmonious interplay.
During my work as a singing teacher, I often observe that at the beginning of the training, my students experience emotional reactions such as tears, sweating, trembling, endless conversations, and the release of old fears and experiences, so that singing lessons are out of the question for the time being. However, after a few weeks and the practice of selected vagus exercises, the picture usually changes to a joy in physical speaking and/or singing, in lively expression in facial expressions, posture and sound.
The vagusonar voice or singing approach, which will be presented for the first time at the WCP 2025 in Vienna and EMTC 2025 in Hamburg, is, due to its physically holistic effect, an important tool for bringing a part of the self that most people do not live into communication again. It includes much more than the mere artistic singing of professional groups specialized in this field – the vagusonar voice is an ego state that lives in everyone and is rarely allowed to express itself throughout our lives. It is part of our nature from the very beginning – suppressing it has fatal effects on a mental, emotional and physical level. "I can't sing!", "You don't want to hear me!", "I only sing under the shower!" are just a few of the statements that result from this state. Ultimately, this attitude has the power to seriously damage our general self-image.
Vagusonar-Therapy helps us to develop our elementary, harmonious self - completely non-judgmental, within a very short time. Its holistic approach places it in line with the embodiment-focused psychotherapy approaches of recent times. The therapist's voice is the anchor for their clients and themselves – a first impression for a successful expression – at eye level, on both sides.
No previous singing experience is required for the Vagusonar-Therapy.
